By far, the highlight of my time with the team was getting to meet everyone in person again after spending the entire quarter on Zoom. Even though we had cleared most of our deliverables by early January, it felt amazing to finally sit down for dinner, catch up, and regroup in person. During the winter quarter itself, staying after calls to chat one-on-one with teammates was really special for me. While I think the group as a whole performed really well, those personal conversations after meetings made everything feel more relaxed and enjoyable. It was such a great way to connect with everyone, and I’m so grateful to have made some really cool friends along the way.
Looking back to the early winter quarter, when we were all brainstorming ideas, I realize I could have really benefited from more hands-on feedback from our creative directors. Going into it, we were a bit uncertain and could have used more guidance and direction. I wish I had pushed for more in-person calls and sought out more collaborative feedback and in-depth critiques from them. Since much of the design style was outside of my comfort zone, I also wish I had given myself the freedom to experiment more and encouraged the team to do the same. At times, I feel like I may have unintentionally limited our design options, and I would have liked to have pushed the boundaries a bit further.
As a graphic design major with a focus on branding and identity, my path is a bit different, but after meeting, exploring, and researching the companies that participated in CoMotion, I developed a appreciation for their energy, culture, and workflow. The people in this industry truly make it what it is—passionate, driven, and constantly inspiring each other to push creative boundaries. The culture of creativity in motion design is unlike anything else, always challenging you to be your best and think outside the box. I am incredibly grateful to have chosen a career in the creative field, where I can not only do what I love but also make a living doing it. While graphic design can sometimes feel limiting, the motion design industry has opened up countless doors and broadened my understanding of the diverse fields I can explore. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to be a apart of CoMotion—it’s a unique experience that allowed me to connect with some truly incredible people and expand my creative network in ways I never could have imagined.
